Central Michigan University recognizes that diversity requires
increasing the number of underrepresented faculty, staff and students
and fostering an educational community that values, respects, reflects
and retains diversity. Furthermore, CMU appreciates the reality
that preparing students for the increasing diverse nation and increasingly
interconnected world of the 21st century requires an
understanding and appreciation of diversity.
The Office
for Institutional Diversity is the university office responsible for providing leadership and direction to the campus
community on diversity and diversity related issues. The units
that report to the Office of Institutional Diversity enhance the
academic experience of the CMU community through the delivery of academic
support, mentoring and programs/activities designed to increase the
university’s awareness and appreciation of diversity. Programming to
educate the university community about different cultures, traditions,
beliefs and perspectives is not relegated to a single month but occurs
on a regular basis. At Central Michigan University, we strive to make
every month
Asian, Black, Hispanic, Native American, and
Women's History
Month and every week Coming Out Week.
