The President’s Diversity Excellence Award is given annually to a faculty, senior officer, staff office/unit and/or a Mt. Pleasant community member or organization that has contributed in a significant way to achieving the goals of the Strategic Plan for Advancing Diversity at CMU and in the Mt. Pleasant community. This award was established by President Rao to honor members of our community who have made exceptional contributions to achieving CMU’s diversity goals. Past awardees include Dr. Traci Guinn, Dr. Robert Newby, Jim Moreno and Collective Action for Cultural Unity (RSO).
Deadline for nominations is Tuesday, April 7.
Five awards will be given out this year – to a CMU faculty member, to a CMU staff member, to a Multicultural Adviser, to a Registered Student Organization and to a member of the broader Mount Pleasant area community.
Nominations are encouraged from all areas of the university and Mt. Pleasant community and may include individuals, groups, or offices/units. Please submit your nomination for the diversity award to Linda Reid (reid1ls@cmich.edu) or deliver a hard copy to the Office for Institutional Diversity at 319 Warriner Hall by Tuesday, April 7. You may nominate an individual, group, or office for the award. The goals of the Strategic Plan for Advancing Diversity at CMU are:
· Foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment.
· Recruit, hire, retain, and promote faculty and staff who will enhance diversity across all levels and areas of the university.
· Recruit and retain students from a diversity of backgrounds.
· Infuse diversity into the curriculum and promote teaching strategies that encourage student involvement and facilitate respect of diverse perspectives.
· Support the administrative and organizational structure needed to coordinate and monitor campus climate progress.
In your nomination materials, please refer to the above goals detailing the extent to which the nominee has helped in promoting diversity at CMU. Consideration will also be given to the number of goals impacted. We encourage you to provide additional evidence to support your nomination.
