"Building an Inclusive and Respectful Community"

WINNING BALANCE WORKSHOP

The goal of the workshop is to realize the importance of creating a workplace in which people of all cultures and backgrounds have a chance to succeed.

The workshop begins with a review of changing demographics in our country and the impact they have on the workplace.  The second part is a discussion of types of interpersonal relationships from exclusion to acceptance.  In the main part of the workshop participants examine stereotypes.  They develop several biographies based

on their reactions to photographs of people from different backgrounds.  Later, they compare their biography with the person's actual life history.  The final part is a discussion of what each participant could do to make their workplace more respectful of people from different backgrounds.

Though both the Winning Balance and Coalition Building Workshops examine stereotypes and personal attitudes, the Winning Balance Workshop zeroes in on relationships in the workplace, while the Coalition Building Workshop provides an opportunity for a more in depth view of personal attitudes and how they affect interpersonal and inter-group relationships.  Also, the workshops offer different types of skills for changing disrespectful attitudes and behaviors.

For upcoming workshops, see Calendar.
